Blake Pyeatt with an excellent black wildebeest (white tailed gnu) bull. These denizens of the open plains are challenging to hunt, due to their excellent eyesight, nervous disposition and unpredictable nature. Often referred to as the clowns of the plains due to their erratic behaviour, they almost became extinct during the 19th century. Today their numbers have recovered, thanks to responsible management by landowners and hunters.Nathan Pyeatt with a blesbok ram. These antelope are endemic to South Africa, and their preferred habitat is the wide-open grasslands. Laohu Valley Reserve is home to ±800 of these antelope.Nathan Pyeatt with a warthog boar. These pigs are a common sight at Laohu Valley Reserve. Boars of this size are, however, not all that common.
